SGMC Lanier Campus to Host Drug Take Back Event

Category: Uncategorized

South Georgia Medical Center’s Lanier Campus, in partnership with the Georgia Department of Public Health and the Lanier County Sheriff’s Department, is hosting a National Prescription Drug Take Back event on Saturday, April 22, from 10am-2pm. The event will be held at SGMC Lanier Campus at 116 W Thigpen Ave in Lakeland, and the community is encouraged to participate.

Drug Take Back Day is a national effort by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration to provide a safe, convenient, and responsible way to dispose of expired, unused prescription drugs. It also serves to educate the public about the potential misuse or abuse of medications.

According to a national survey on drug use and health, the majority of misused prescription drugs were obtained from family and friends, often from a medicine cabinet at home. In addition, unused or expired drugs can hurt people, pets, and the environment if they are lost, stolen, or misused.

Community participants have the opportunity to help prevent drug addiction and overdose deaths.
