Public Health and ABAC Host Health Equity Summit

TIFTON – Access to health care and health resources is critical for all individuals to reach their highest health quality possible. Public health works daily to ensure that everyone has access to those resources, no matter their income.
The Georgia Department of Public Health’s South Health District in conjunction with Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College will host a Health Equity Summit this month in Tifton.
The event will bring together experts in the field of public health, epidemiology and health policy and will focus on the importance of health equity and the steps communities and individuals can take to improve health equity.
The keynote speaker for the summit will be Dr. Guizar Shah, Department Chair of Health Policy and Community Health Department at Georgia Southern University. Breakout sessions will also be offered throughout the day. Breakout session speakers include Rana Bayakly, Chief Epidemiologist, Chronic Disease at the Georgia Department of Public Health; Clarissa Alderman, Licensed Professional Counselor and Owner of Family Insight, LLC; Ky Lindberg, Chief Executive Officer for Healthy Mothers, Healthy Babies Coalition of Georgia; Breakout Speaker 3 Dr. Adrian Israel Martinez-Franco, Department Head of Rural Studies ABAC; Trustable Sources of Health Information Amanda Mohammed, MPH, Program Coordinator for the Office of Critical Event Preparedness and Response Emory University; Dr. Stacy Smallwood Associate Professor of Health Policy and Community Health at Georgia Southern University.
The event is scheduled for Monday, April 17 from 9:30AM-5PM at ABAC campus’ Edwards Building, 2802 Moore Hwy in Tifton.
