Internship Program
Thank you for your interest in interning with a program or health department in the South Health District. Before applying, please consider the following:
Availability: Some programs or health departments prefer interns/students for specific times of the day or days of the week. Take into account any jobs or other activities you are involved in before applying. Generally, most of our positions will be needed between the hours of 8 am and 5 pm, Monday through Friday with some differences based on programs.
Background Check: Each applicant must pass a background check before beginning their internship/preceptorship.
Eligibility: To be eligible for an internship within South Health District, the applicant must be in good standing in an accredited college or university. The student must also be enrolled in an internship course.
Flexibility: In general, the more open you are to working with various programs or health departments, the greater the likelihood we can accommodate your experience.
Goals/Objectives: Interns, with the appropriate staff member(s), will be expected to set goals and objectives for their internship time. Interns should be prepared to discuss their progress on the goals and objectives periodically throughout their internship.
Immunizations/Tuberculosis: Interns must submit an immunization record to ensure he/she is up-to-date on their immunizations. The student will also have to get a Tuberculin Skin Test (TST) before starting a placement.
Location: South Health District covers ten counties in south central Georgia. When applying, please indicate if you would be available to commute to a county other than the one in which you live or study.
Policy/Procedure: If you join the South Health District team as in intern, you will be expected to abide by all South Health District policies and procedures. You will learn many of the policies and procedures through the orientation process.
Resume: You will be expected to submit an electronic format of your resume when applying.
Student Affiliation Agreement: South Health District must have an established Student Affiliation Agreement on file with the student’s college or university for an internship to be available. If there is no established agreement, the organization may create one with the college or university depending on the time allowed.
Transportation: Some internship placements will require travel within our District. Interns will be responsible for reliable transportation and the expenses incurred with travel within the 10 counties.
South Health District has the right to approve or deny each request that is received dependent on the above as well as the number of internship/preceptorship placements already provided each semester.
Nursing colleges/universities may submit ten requests per semester for clinical hours.
