Environmental Services

The mission of Environmental Health Services is to provide primary prevention through a combination of surveillance, education, enforcement, and assessment programs designed to identify, prevent and abate the environmental conditions that adversely impact human health. We do this through many different arenas.

Food Service (Restaurant Inspections)
The goal of our Food Service program is to minimize food-borne related illnesses. We do this through regulating and routine inspecting food services establishments such as restaurants, schools, caterers, and other related facilities. We plan, review and permit these facilities; as well as educate and train food service operators, managers and employees. Land Use Services
The goal of the Land Use program is to minimize health problems related to untreated human sewage. We do this through permitting and inspecting septic tank systems; permitting and inspecting septage pumping operations; investigating complaints related to sewage disposal problems; and subdivision and lot evaluation for issuance of permits in septic tank systems and wells. Tourist Accommodations (Hotels, Motels, Campgrounds)
The goal of the Tourist Accommodations program is to minimize illness and injury associated with unsanitary or hazardous conditions in motels, hotels, travel trailer parks, bed and breakfast inns, and other tourist accommodations. We do this through regularly inspecting tourist accommodations; planning, reviewing, and permitting of these accommodations; and investigating complaints related to unsanitary or hazardous conditions in tourist accommodations. Public Swimming Pools & Recreational Water Parks
The goal of the Public Swimming Pool program is to minimize illness and injury associated with contaminated or hazardous conditions in or around public pools or parks. We do this through inspecting public swimming pools and recreational water parks routinely; planning, reviewing, and permitting of public swimming pools and recreational water parks; and investigating complaints related to unsanitary or unsafe conditions at public swimming pools and recreational water parks. Lead Home Investigations
The goal of the Lead Home Investigations program is to eliminate childhood lead poisoning in Georgia. For more information on the Lead Home Investigations program visit click here.

Rabies Control
The goal of the Rabies Control program is to control the spread of  rabies between humans and animals. Environmental Health investigates all reported bites and possible rabies exposure. For more information on the Rabies Control program visit http://dph.georgia.gov/rabies.

Other Services
Evaluation of individual drinking water supply systems and collection of water samples for bacteriological assay.
